Composition Solid Board
Solid board is build up out of several layers of grey board. These layers contain fibres recovered from recycled paper and recycled cardboard. A sheet of brown or white paper is glued to the top and bottom, which ensures that solid board retains its strength in moist conditions for a longer period of time. In order to enhance the moisture-resistance of the board even further, a PE coating can be applied.
A water-resistant form of solid board is also available. An additive in the grey layer ensures that the space between fibres is filled up as best as possible, preventing water from entering the cardboard. This is called Sapino®.
Depending on the application, the most suitable composition and material thickness are chosen for a box.
Unique physical and mechanical characteristics
Solid Board stands out compared to other packaging materials due to the following unique physical and mechanical characteristics:
-
High folding accuracy
-
High bursting strength
-
High puncture resistance
-
High tearing strength
-
Low cop values
-
Leak-proof possibilities
-
Water resistant possibilities
-
High quality printing possibilities
-
No insulating effect because there is no trapped air in the material. Insulating effects are possible with special constructions
-
Availability of liners (PE, kraft, metal film, etc.) and different board grades
